The motion of the reaction valve of the rock drill starts before openning of the exhaust port in the fore stroke of the piston.
When this fact is applied, blowing the bit can be done as soon as the exhaust port opens fully, with pushing the bit shank for some distance into the cylinder.
By this method, cushioning pressure of the fore room of the cylinder would decreases, and the strength of blow has the possibility to increase so much.
Exhaust port are arranged peripherally in the cylinder, not axially as the conventional type (coal pick CA7), therefore, the compression length in the rear room increases, or the length of the cylinder can be shortend by some length.
Valves are made of duralumin. Edges of air inlet holes of valve cases and valve seats are carefully finished roundly, thus, friction losses of air will decrease to some extent.
Labyrinth typed grooves are cut in the sliding surface of the piston. By these grooves leakage of air is prevented and good lubrication is obtained.
As a result of the experiments, several performances are raised and a value of the net efficiency increases by above 3%.
