The detonation velocity measurements of 94/6 AN-FO mixtures in confined charge and AN-FO blasting experiments at the limestone quarry were performed last year. As ammonium nitrate, fine grain and coarse, dense grain of AN, both manufactured for the fertifizer or industrial purposes in this country, were used.<BR>The detonation velocity was measured by Dautriche method. The results of measurements are shown in Fig. 2-4.<BR>Both the detonation velocity and the detonation pressure decrease rapidly with the decrease of charge diameter and the critical charge diameter for coarse, dense grain of AN is estimated about 80mm.<BR>The detonation velocity of fine grain of AN is always higher than coarse, dense AN prills, and increases with pouring density. The detonation velocity of 4, 000 to 4, 800m/s are obtained for fine grain AN-FO mixtures of high pouring density.<BR>The detonation velocity of fine grain AN is almost unrelated with the charge length, but it decreases rapidly with increase of the charge length by the coarse, dense grain of AN.<BR>The microscopic observation will explain these innert properties of coarse, dense grain of AN-FO mixtures as illustrated in Fig. 5-9.<BR>Blasting experiments of AN-FO mixtures at the limestone quarry were performed under conditions as follows, <BR>borehole diameter 78mm line of least resistance 2.4-6.3m borehole length 5-15m tensile strength of limestone 70kg/cm2<BR>In general, good blasting results were obtained.
