This equipment was installed at Ningyô-tôge Mine to determine the approximate grade of uranium ore by measuring radioactivity from the are in the mine tub and to separate at a given grade limit the are containing tub from the waste tub.
The equipment is composed of eleven Geiger tubes which are placed with a given distance around the mine tub and of a counting and sorting electrical circuit. The radioactivity from the are is caught by the tubes and is counted by the counting circuit during a preset time, say, in 15 seconds. Consequently, the judgement of “go” or “no-go” on the are is indicated by the sorting circuit.
With this device, it is possible to measure the radioactivity of all of the are in the mine tub by a given short time and to sort the are tub out of the waste tub.
An experiment using this equipment has proved that the grade of uranium are is much correlative to the counts of radioactivity.
The ability of this equipment regarding the separation has been proved to be satisfactory.
