抄録

The stability of aqueous magnetite suspension obtained by using inorganic dispersant was investigated. The colloidal magnetite was prepared by co-precipitation method. The results are as follows:(1) The point of zero charge of the magnetite colloids is estimated to be at pH6.4 by the measurement of potentiometric titration by Mular and Roberts. At about pH10, the magnetite suspension is apparently dispersed.<BR>(2) It was observed that 0.1 to 0.2 wt% was the upper limit of solid concentration necessary to maintain stable dispersion.<BR>(3) The magnetite colloids in apparently stable suspension flocculate by applying magnetic field and it didn't show the properties of magnetic fluid.<BR>(4) According to the estimation by DLVO theory with adding magnetic attraction force, the maximum of total potential energy (Vmax) is 20 kT for those magnetite dispersion. It is about the same as 15kT which is said to be a criterion of the stable dispersion. Therefore, phenomena as seen in (2) and (3) are recognized to be based upon the reason that the Vmax is not sufficiently large and the suspension is regarded as slow flocculation system.
