Abstract

In post-Soviet Russia, the Russian Orthodox Church has increased it's presence in public spheres, education, medicine, and welfare management. How does the Russian Orthodox Church discipline people in the era of post-atheism? This article attempts to clarify the way the Russian Orthodox Church teaches people from the perspective of its image of women and family. The author surveyed church calendars for women, and this study reveals that the images of women are not monolithic, and that they reflect the contemporary social context in Russia.
