抄録

Gears in power transmission have to have higher surface durability and reliability. To raise the surface durability, there are many methods, such as heat treatment, shot-peening, applying new material instead of steel and so on. In this study, maraging steel was used to raise the surface durability of the gears. The mechanical properties of the maraging steel are superior to those of the steel. Therefore, the tribological characteristics and the surface durability of the maraging steel were investigated under a sliding-rolling contact condition using a two-cylinder testing machine. The surface durability of the maraging steel was 70 percent of case-hardened SCM415 steel, and 1.5 times thermal refined SCM440 steel.
