Abstract
The quantitative information of articular cartilage is needed to treat the joint disease. We have been investigating the method that is non-contact ultrasonic evaluation for articular cartilage under the arthroscopy. The evaluation for articular cartilage from the skin surface will be more convenient than that under the arthroscopy. We have investigated the method ultrasonic evaluation with one transducer. The transducer has to be vertically placed on the measurement point. The purpose of this study is to evaluate articular cartilage through the skin with two transducers. In this study, we investigated possibility of the new method with two transducers using numerical analysis and experiment. Signal intensity was larger at the ultrasonic beam angle of 45°than that 70°. Moreover, from numerical analysis ultrasonic echo was attenuated through the skin.
