K-0620 The Effects of Carbon Content and Deformation Value for Improvement of Fatigue Strength by Roller-working

抄録

Fatigue tests were performed in the study to investigate the effects of carbon content and deformation value for the improvement of fatigue strength of notched specimen by roller working using two medium plain carbon steels (JIS standards S25C/S45C). The deformation values are 0.25, 0.5 and 1.0mm by keeping the final shapes and dimensions except for deformed value. The main results obtained are as follows: (1) the fatigue strength of notched specimen by roller working increases appropriately by increasing the plastic deformation value. (2) The fatigue limits of S45C are higher on an average with 122 % than those of S25C. (3) The optimum deformation value by roller working of the two materials' notched part is approximately to 0.5mm. (4) The fatigue limits of D05 (roller working specimen with 0.5mm deformation value of notch) are improved to 370 and 435 MPa of S25C/S45C, which are about 220% and 235% of those of ND (non roller-worked specimens).
