Description

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of shoes on the motion control of lower extremity during rhythmical hopping. Six healthy male subjects volunteered to perform hopping at fixed rhythm on two footwear conditions (barefoot, shoes). The surface electromyography (EMG) of tibial anterior, gastrocnemius medialis, rectus femoris and biceps femoris were measured. Simultaneously A 3-D image for the motion analysis and ground reaction force were recorded by three high-speed cameras and two forceplatforms. Then power, work and stiffness of ankle, knee and hip joints and leg stiffness were calculated. At comparison of shoes conditions with barefoot conditions ankle joint stiffness and work increased at shoes conditions, but knee joint stiffness and work decreased. The results of this study suggest that the contribution of knee joint for hopping increased at shoes conditions compared to barefoot conditions.
