Description

This research project demonstrates the effective low energy measures for housing life in a local city in Tohoku district of Japan, Tagajyo. The more effective insulation measures, the shift to electric vehicles from conventional gasoline vehicles and installation of solar cells have been evaluated based on the survey of energy consumption of house operation as well as private cars. The result shows that it would be possible to reduce the energy consumption of detached houses in the city by 48% with these measures, in which the most effective measure was the installation of solar cells on the roof. Since there is the demand discordance between electricity generation by solar cells and electricity consumption by houses, the usage of electric vehicle batteries to store the excess electricity generated by solar cells has been evaluated. The result shows that 74% of the annual excess electricity can be utilized effectively by these electric vehicle batteries.
