Description

A field measurement, wind tunnel experiments and numerical analysis have been carried out in order to clarify the optimal housing arrangement considering snow conditions in heavy snow regions. The field measurement using actual models indicates that characteristics of snow distribution on the residential area are strongly concerned with snowdrifts caused by a building complex and channel air flows among buildings. According to the wind tunnel experiments, snow conditions in the residential area are affected from snow heaps piled for snow removal and roof shapes. This result suggests the need to carefully determine the locations for piling removed snow at the block.
