抄録
The author tried to formulate statistically the trends of abatement of ship's speed (ΔV knots) relative to the force of wind (B-Beaufort Scale), by means of the graphical method of least square, using the data formerly reported and also newly collected on the subject from trans-Pacific navigation records of 1957. The results are compared and shown by the following figures. Fig.1. Head wind and sea (ΔV_h, knots) Fig.2. Beam wind and sea (ΔV_b knots) Fig.3. Free wind and sea (ΔV_f knots) (N.B.) Including intentional reduction of speed. Further, the author analysed the above results and noticed that abatement of ship's speed by wind effects (ΔV_w, knots) are proportional to wind velocity (W m/sec) and those by wave (or Sea) effects (ΔV_s knots) to wave height (H m). (Fig.5 and 6)
