In the case of fixing noon position by observing heavenly bodies, the combination of ante-meridian and noon sights of the sun has been most generally preferred. However, it must be borne in mind that the ship's position fixed by such a method is of very low accuracy, accordingly it is desirable to add some other sight to them. The writer has already studied the determination of ship's position by observing the sun from various points of view. In this paper he esteems an ancient custom that 1st sight should be observed at 8a.m. and a practical requirement that accurate ship's position must be gotten at noon. Considerations are offered on the most suitable opportunities to take 2nd sight according to various combinations of latitude and declination, and on the accuracy of ship's positions determined by this method provided that 1st and 3rd sights are observed at 8a.m. and noon, and 2nd sight necessarily observed in the forenoon.
