Death domain-associated protein (DAXX) is a multifunctional protein that modulates both cell death and transcription. DAXX predominantly localizes in the nucleus and regulates the transcription of genes. Several studies have indicated that DAXX is a mediator of lymphocyte death and/or growth suppression, although it is still unclear whether DAXX pro-cell death function is dependent on its transcriptional functions. We found that DAXX suppresses the gp130/STAT3-dependent cell growth and that DAXX interacts with STAT3 and inhibits its DNA-binding activity. Here we will discuss recent developments in our understanding of the nuclear functions of DAXX.<br>
