Abstract

Mutual interactions between two initially spherical bubbles in a liquid and the pressure waves radiated from them have been theoretically investigated. The equations for the motions of the two bubbles have been obtained and numerically solved, in which the compressibility of the liquid, the deformation of bubble walls and the relative motion between them are taken into consideration. It has been shown that the initially smaller bubble becomes unstable due to the interaction with the initially larger one depending both on the ratio of bubble radii and the initial gas pressure inside the bubbles. The result also indicates that an impulsive pressure higher than that of a single bubble can be produced from the initially smaller bubble under the special initial conditions.
