Abstract

Solubilization technique by the use of a high molecular weight amine was applied for qualitative and quantitative infrared spectrophotometric analyses of some water-soluble azo food dyes (Amaranth, Ponceau SX, New Coccine, Orange I, Sunset Yellow). These dyes in aqueous solutions are extracted with a 5% solution of Amberlite LA-2 in carbon disulfide. Each of these dyes was identified easily by their characteristic bands (Table I). The results obtained in the analyses of synthetic mixed samples of Amaranth and Ponceau SX indicated that this method would be useful for quantitative determination (Table II).
