Abstract
Several similarities can be found when comparing the exchange of shunju yuretsuka (poems arguing the superiority of spring or autumn) between Empress Akikonomu and Lady Murasaki that take place in the "Otome" chapter of Genji monogatari and "The Spring and Autumn Poetry Contest Among the Children of Saisho no Chujo Koretada." The exchange of poetry in the "Otome" chapter brings the era of Emperor Murakami into sharp relief and ties together the cultures of the Murakami court and Rokujo-in. While intentionally following the form of "The Spring and Autumn Poetry Contest Among the Children of Saisho no Chujo Koretada," Genji, Empress Akikonomu, and Lady Murasaki also aim to transcend it and plan a new contest.
