抄録

A cavitation erosion and marine corrosion resistant Co-containing stainless steel has been developed. In the previous report this stainless steel showed a high resistance to marine corrosion as well as to cavitation erosion in the accelerated test. The present report concerns with cavitation erosion of the stainless steel under a mild cavitation environment to which most of sea water hydraulic machines are exposed. The results are summarized as follows; 1) The stainless steel showed an excellent cavitation and corrosion resistance in an wedge type cavitation erosion test using 3% NaCl solution. 2) The cavitation erosion resistance may be attributed to the presence of the work hardened layer formed by the martensitic transformation of unstable austenitic phase occurred during the cavitation test. 3) This stainless steel showed an excellent machinability suitable for manufacturing large size hydraulic machines for sea water use.
