It is wellknown that the resistance force of a fuel injection pump affects greatly the cyclic revolutional speed fluctuations of a diesel engine, such as "hunting". However, the resistance itself has not been fully clarisied. One of the authors has reported experimental results in which the rack-resistance force could be represented by the nth power (n=0.25) of the rack velocity. In this paper, the authors attempt to analyze the rack-resistance force experimentally and theoretically, discuss the background of the above assumption.
