Abstract

In this study, the dynamic behavior and operating condition of a 2-port pilot-operated solenoid valve were examined. The experiments were done by changing the upstream or the diameter of the pilot orifice. Steady or unsteady thrusts of the valve were analyzed by the control volume determined y the discharge chamber. From comparison of the experimental results with the calculated value, the following conclusions were obtained. The pressure p2o and p2s defined by eq. (5), (6) gave an indication of the design for the operation of the valve. As a time-lag response of p3, the characteristics of unsteady thrust which significantly affects the dynamic behavior of the valve is different from that of steady thrust. The dynamic behavior was considerably affected by the pressure distribution at the valve seat when the displacement of the valve was very small.
