Noble Evaluation Method for Light Trapping Effect in Polycrystalline Silicon Solar Cells with Texture Structures using Laser Beam Induced Current

Description

A new evaluation method is proposed for the evaluation of the light trapping effect in polycrystalline silicon solar cells utilizing a laser beam induced current. Three types of solar cells with different textured structures were evaluated. The laser beam induced current (LBIC) map of solar cells with a chemically etched surface showed that the photocurrent varies depending on the grain type. Comparison between the Scanning electron microscope (SEM) image and photocurrents was performed and reasonable agreement between then was obtained. It was found that LBIC is highly effective for the evaluation of light trapping in the polycrystalline silicon solar cells with textured structures. Furthermore, we could confirm that LBIC distribution yields information about the parts in the surface which have an incomplete light trapping structure. This method will be very useful for the development of high efficiency polycrystalline silicon solar cells.
