The in vitro sensitivity for Vistamycin (VSM) was studied by the plate dilution method on 84 strains of Staphylococcus aureus, 53 strains of Escherichia coli and 17 strains of Klebsiella, all of which were isolated recently from clinical materials. In addition, the antibacterial effect of VSM was compared with that of kanamycin (KM), fradiomycin (FRM) or streptomycin (SM).<BR>The minimum inhibitory concentration (M. I. C.) of VSM was 3.13-1.56μg/ml for the susceptible strains of Staphylococcus aureus, and 12.5μg/ml for Escherichia coli. This result shows that M. I. C. of VSM was 2-fold higher than that of KM or FRM, while the M. I. C. of VSM for Klebsiella was the same as KM or FRM.<BR>It was concluded that there may be the distinct cross-resistance among VSM, KM and FRM.
