Abstract

1. Antibacterial activity<BR>The antibacterial activity of mezlocillin was found to be equal or superior to that of carbenicillin by<BR>1 tube against E. coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Serratia marcescens isolated from urinarytract infections.<BR>2. Blood level and urinary excretion<BR>Mezlocillin was administrated in 3 healthy adult volunteers by drip infusion for 2 hours at a dose of 2g and blood level and urinary excretion were measured.<BR>Peak blood level was observed at the end of drip infusion and average of 3 cases was 75.7 μg/ml, showing 9.1μg/ml and 1.9μg/ml respectively 4 and 6 hours after the start of drip infusion.<BR>Average of urinary excretion rate was 48.6% within 8 hours after the start of drip infusion.<BR>3. Clinical evaluation<BR>Mezlocillin was administrated by drip infusion to 30 cases of complicated urinary tract infections.<BR>Clinical results were excellent in 10, good in 8 and poor in 12, the effective rate being 60.0%.<BR>4. Side effects<BR>No side effects were observed.
