Abstract
1. Antibacterial activity
The antibacterial activity of mezlocillin was found to be equal or superior to that of carbenicillin by
1 tube against E. coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Serratia marcescens isolated from urinarytract infections.
2. Blood level and urinary excretion
Mezlocillin was administrated in 3 healthy adult volunteers by drip infusion for 2 hours at a dose of 2g and blood level and urinary excretion were measured.
Peak blood level was observed at the end of drip infusion and average of 3 cases was 75.7 μg/ml, showing 9.1μg/ml and 1.9μg/ml respectively 4 and 6 hours after the start of drip infusion.
Average of urinary excretion rate was 48.6% within 8 hours after the start of drip infusion.
3. Clinical evaluation
Mezlocillin was administrated by drip infusion to 30 cases of complicated urinary tract infections.
Clinical results were excellent in 10, good in 8 and poor in 12, the effective rate being 60.0%.
4. Side effects
No side effects were observed.
