説明

When dicyclopentadiene and maleic anhydride were heated at 250-270°C, a resin having a great amount of anhydride groups was obtained (Table 1). The structure of the resin and its practical use were studied.
From the FDMS spectrum of the resin (Fig. 3), it was clarified that the resin was composed of three types of components, the first was the component having one anhydride group in a molecule (Structure [II] and [III]), the second was that having two anhydride groups in a molecule (Structure[IV]) and the last was an oligomer of cyclopentadiene (Structure[I]). It was observed that elimination reaction of CO2 and esterification occurred in the thermal reaction of dicyclopentadiene and maleic anhydride in the presence of water (Table 2, Eq. (3)).
When the resin was applied to a glycol ink, it caused a defect in water resistance of the ink (Tables 3-5). Acryloyl groups were induced into the resin by the reaction between anhydride groups of the resin and 2-hydroxyethylacrylate (Eq. (4)). A reactive ink was prepared using the modified resin (Table 6). When the printed material using the ink was heated, water resistance of the printed surface was improved (Fig. 5). The modified resin is useful as a novel reactive resin for printing inks.
