Abstract

Electro assisted Stirling engine, such as Semi-Free-Piston type has two merits. The first merit is the easiness of control of power. The more the phase lag between power piston and displacer shifts from the angle of 90 degrees (This angle gives the best thermal efficiency), the more the thermal efficiency goes down. Therefore, controlling the phase lag, the power of the Stirling engine can be controlled. The second merit of the electro assisted Stirling engine is the flexibility of the placements of power piston and displacer. On this type of Stirling engine, since the movements of power piston and displacer are electrically synchronized, these two units can be remotely placed. This flexibility of the placements of power piston and displacer gives several unique usages. In this study, for the electro assisted Stirling engine, the three arrangements of power piston and displacer are proposed.
