抄録

Recent basic science shows evidence that bronchial asthma is an inflammatory disease of the airways. Asthma guidelines have been published in many western countries since the late 1980s and Global Guideline (GINA) was published in 1995 for the purpose of standardization and globalization of asthma management. GINA was revised in 2002 as GINA2002. Japanese Guideline (JGL) was first published in 1993 and has been revised several times. The newest one (JGL2003) was published last October.<br>These newly published guidelines (GINA2002 and JGL2003) are compared and discussed as they pertain to future directions in asthma treatment.
