説明

In 1861 Von Rokitansky first described superior mesenteric artery syndrome (SMAS). It is often complicated with disease such as anorexia neruvosa or muscular dystrophy characteristics of which are extreme loss of weight or muscle power.<br>We have recently experienced a case of SMAS in a 16-years-old severely disabled male patient with gastroesophageal reflex (GER), referred to us for evaluation of recurrent vomiting and weight loss. He was diagnosed to have SMAS by upper GI series after he was admitted to our hospital.<br>The patient was treated with a herb medicine, Rikkunshi-to, and gastrointestinal tube feeding. We paid special attention to the body position of the patient during feeding and ingredients of the feed. Rikkunshi-to seemed effective for weight gaining.
