抄録

A survey was made of the so-called resistant-leprosy cases and these cases were treated under close supervision. The results after 6 months of treatment suggest that the number of truly resistant cases is much smaller than has been reported if the causal factors in the so-called resistant cases are carefully screened.<br>In the present investigation the number of so-called resistant cases was less than 1.0% of all the patients in the institution <br>Treatment by various combinations of antileprosy agents of 6 months resulted in an improvement of the skin manifestation in 60%.<br>It is impossible to comment on the fate of bacilli after only 6 mouths treatment in these chronic eases. The standard utilizing the Mitsuda reaction also reguires further investigation in view of the increasing rise in sensitization. It is regreted that there were about 20 patients who refused to cooperate in conducting this study and the need for close cooperation of the patient and determined efforts of the doctor was acutely felt in the case of diseases such as leprosy which take an extremely chronic course.<br>Though the search for new therapeutic agents is important, the results of this study suggest that treatment should be designed to meet the requirements of each case and the relation between the host and the bacillus should be examined anew from the aspect of therapy.
