Abstract

An analytical study was performed for the fluid elastic instability as observed in Super-Phenix-1 LMFBR. In this report, calculations were conducted for the 1/10-scale experimental model, which is one of the representative model employed by Fujita et al. Agreement between the analytical and the experimental results were good. It is shown that the kinematic effect of the discharged fluid on the downstream plenum sloshing is predominant rather than the dynamic effect, i. e. the increase in volumetric inflow rate into the downstream plenum causes the free surface to rise. Therefore, the system becomes unstable if the inflow rate increases when the free surface of the downstream plenum are rising.
