Abstract

With the previously mentioned purpose we put out a questionnaire to find out how the inhabitants of these islands assessed their living conditions.<BR>The result of their evaluation is as follows : <BR>1) Plus evaluation is of sanitary conditions. Minus evaluations are of facilities, comfort, culture etc.<BR>2) About the change of living conditions during the last five years, they give high evaluation to the expansion and improvement of facilities. They think disagreeably about the promotion of motorization.<BR>3) The facilities in the country districts are available in every town and village and inhabitants evaluate this highly, but there are regional differences about it in various areas. They criticize the fact that there are no facilities in the remote areas. The number of facilities, the distance from them, and the transportation method to get to them are the problems for inhabitants at present.<BR>4) Taking these into consideration, more than half of the inhabitants think their present living conditions “Just so so” or “rather good.” They seem to wish to have a convenient life without damaging their good natural environment.
