Riptortus Clavatus THUNBERG, one of the most injurious stink bugs of soybean in Miyagi prefecture, was reared on various kinds of dry seeds in the laboratory and the following results were obtained.<BR>1) The nymphs could be reared successfully only with soybean seed and water. When they fed on other kinds of seeds, the emergence rate was low<BR>2) The emergence rate tended to be higher at a high temperature than at a low.<BR>3) Under different diet conditions, there were a negative correlation between the duration of the nymphal stage and the emergence rate and a positive correlation between the duration of the nymphal stage and its coefficient of variation. Such correlations were not clear under different conditions of temperature.<BR>4) The developmental threshold and the sum of effective heat required for one generation were 15.3 & C and 385 day-degrees, respectively. The seasonal development predicted by these parameters was generally coincided with the observation in thefield.<BR>5) The photoperiodic response was observed in the ovarian development and the critical photoperiod in the Miyagi population was between the 13L: 11D and 14L: 10D.
