Description
A cable crane which is hung at three supports is here proposed by adding the third support (or line) to the traditional two. The function of the third line is to expand the working area of cable crane from line to two dimensional space or plane. The traditional cable line, which is utilized as the most popular way of transporting logs in mountainous areas, is not always convenient because of the narrow linear shape of the working area.
It has been made clear that the tension and the length of each of three cable lines can easily be calculated by setting positions of 3 supports and hoist hanging point, when static balanced state is supposed.
A FORTRAN program is shown here, by which the tension at each support, the length of each cable line and the bearable weight are computed by catenary, supposing at least one tension of three reaches the maximal allowable limit, putting beforehand positions of 3 supports and hoist point and the maximal allowable tension limit. And in one model case which bears a weight 1000 times the weight of unit length wire rope and the maximal allowable limit is 3200 times the same, the locus plane of hoist point and the tensions at 3 supports were computed.
