Description

The relationship between the distribution of rockycliffs and that of landslides in Kurobegawa river basin was investigated by use of the topographical map of the scale of one to five thousands. The followings were measured on the map which was covered by the square glid with the unit area of 0.25km2: The number of contour lines, rockycliffs in the unit quadrat, the number of glids that rockycliffs appear continuously in the adjacent quadrats and the length of rockycliffs which was measured by a curvimeter. The same measurement was conducted about landslides. In addition, Monte Carlo simulation method was employed to get the average distribution type of rockycliffs and landslides on the assumption that they took place at random. As a result of these measurements, the followings have been made clear: Rockycliffs do not appear singly but appear continuously in wider areas, the wider a group of rockycliffs appears continuously, the higher the density of short cliffs and the steeper the inclination of this region is. The tendency of appearance of landslides is similar to that of the rockycliffs, but not so much distinct as in the case of the rockycliffs. The distribution of the landslides almost coincided with that of the rockycliffs. The writer concluded that the geologic characters which were caused by many fault zones and sheared zones, were closely related with the production of the rockycliffs and landslides in this region.
