Abstract

We measured some properties of the brown forest soils on the Dando National Forest, Aichi prefecture, especially on the water relationships of these soils, and data therefrom are as follows:
a) pF-moisture curves of the soils in natural conditions, lower than pF 2.5, are shown in Fig. 1-Fig. 9.
The apparatus and method for measuring were given in Report (I).
b) Permeability of the soils are shown in Table 2. c) Volume compositions of the soils in natural condition are shown in Fig. 10.
d) Mechanical compositions of the soils are given in Table 3.
e) Some chemical properties of the soils are shown in Table 4.
Part of this area, lower than 800m. above sea level, is steep (mature stage), and the higher part is peneplain.
On the peneplain the soils are clayey, compact and of bad physical properties, but on the steep area the soils are sandy, gravely and porous.
The physical properties of the moist brown soils (BD-, Br-soil) are important for growth of plants, the same as those of black soils reported in Report (I).
BD-soil (compact) on the peneplain is a poor site for plants.
BD-, BE-soil (porous) on the lower parts of steep slopes are good sites for plants.
On the contrary, the dried soils (BA-, BB-soil) are the poorest sites for plants in spite of their porous structure.
