Abstract

This paper investigates the effect of cable vibration on the design of dynamic vibration absorbers for ropeway carriers which are suspended by cables. ln this analysis the ropeway carrier and cable were modeled with a lumped parameter method and an analytical Green's function was used to obtain the stiffness matrix of the cable system. The natural frequencies and mode shapes of the pendulum with cable system were determined in order to find a single equivalent pendulum by matching the kinetic energy of the two models. Using the equivalent pendulum, an optimum dynamic vibration absorber for the cable suspension carrier was designed. Experiments for the free vibration of the system were conducted to verify the modeling results and demonstrate the usefulness of this work.
