Abstract
A forest management planning system was developed for determining a short-term plan using a geographic information system. For every working subcompartment, the standard amount of labor for each year defined by the medium-range planning system, was corrected for the distances from forest roads and slope angles calculated by a geographic information system (GIS). The value coefficients for various kinds of operations have been decided by means of operating months. The optimium yearly working plan was determined using the linear programming method and the fuzzy linear programming method, and the results could be displayed and analyzed by GIS graphics. This system was used in Tokyo University Forest in Chiba Prefecture. This system has been shown to be effective for determining a working plan.
