Description

Assuming that the stands having similar mean height are at the same growth stage, equivalent-height curves on the relation (the ρ-υ relation) between stand density (ρ) and mean stem volume (υ) have been expressed with the reciprocal equation υ=1/(Aρ+B). In this case the reciprocal equation has been determined from all sample stands statistically. The author, however, considered that, because of artificial or natural diminution of tree number, the stands do not always have the same mean diameter at breast height for a given stand density in each height class. In this paper, the ρ-υ relations are discussed, paying special attention to the stand with the largest mean diameter at breast height for a given stand density in each height class. The results are the following: 1) The ρ-υ relation on a log scale is approximated by the straight line with an inclination of 45 degree, within the density range of actual stand. 2) The 45 degree line of ρ-υ relation shows that actual stem volume of stand (V) is constant regardless of stand density. Therefore, there is a certain density range showing a tendency of the constant final yield of stem volume in spite of stand density. 3) This ρ-V relation in each height class is called the Full Stock Curve.
