抄録

The differentiation of leaves at the apices of the tiller buds of floating rice plants grown under deep water conditions was observed. The 7th node tiller buds differentiated at the plant age of 7, in the plants grown under deep water conditions as well as in the plants grown under shallow water conditions. The deep water treatments did not affect the differentiation of leaves at the apices of the tiller buds at the initial developmental stage of the tiller buds. Te differentiation of leaves proceeded under the deep water conditions, though more slowly than under the shallow water conditions. The growth of the tiller buds which had differentiated under deep water was promoted by the decrease of the water level. The tiller buds at the nth node and (n-1) th node grew well, and the tiller buds at the (n-3) th node did not grow, when the water level was lowered to a depth of 2 cm at the plant age ofn. The (n-2) th node was the critical node at which the tiller buds could grow after the lowering of the water level.
