Description

Three-year-old seedlings of four clonal Cryptomeria japonica D. DON were kept under color boxes with neutral (360_??_760nm), blue (360_??_560nm, 700_??_760nm), yellow (450_??_760nm), and red (560_??_760nm) acryic films in alternating temperatures, 30°C for day (6 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and 15°C for night (6 p.m. to 6 a.m.) as well as 25°C for day and 15°C for night. The energy of light between 360 and 760nm was kept at a constant level in all the color boxes in a phytotron glass room. The four-clonal materials were sprayed with gibberellin (GA3) solution (100ppm) one month after light treatments were initiated. More male flower buds were initiated under the blue box than under the red and yellow boxes. Whereas female flower buds were initiated under the red and yellow boxes, but were less under the blue box.
