Description
This paper is one of human engineering analyses which make clear the working comfortableness of cutting work by chainsaws.
From the results of experiments, the followings were observed:
(1) The vibrating acceleration occurring to the handle-bar, in the vertical direction against the blade, increases nearly in proportion to the rpm of engine. In this case, the rpm of chainsaw and the cutting resistance were controlled and kept by pressing down the saw to the cutting timber under the condition of full opened throttle valve.
(2) From observed relations between the rpm and the cutting speed (cm2/s), it is sure that the cutting speed has a maximum value in a certain range of the rpm, namely 5500 to 6000 rpm.
(3) The pulse number as a physiological indicator decreases nearly in proportion to the increase of the rpm of chainsaw under cutting works.
From these results, we can further make the following discussions:
1) Considering the terms of (1) and (3), it can be said that a condition for comfortable cutting work would not be realized only by the improvement on the mechanical engineering point of view which decreases positively the vibration of a chainsaw. For the comfortable chainsaw working, it is recommended that the cutting work would be performed under a higher range of rpm than that where maximum cutting efficiency can be expected as seen in Fig. 4.
2) The optimum range of the rpm of chainsaws in view of cutting efficiency would not satisfy the cutting condition giving desireable pulse number to chainsaw operators. But we should not sacrifice the condition of operator's comfortableness in order to get the economical efficiency.
3) It is sure that there is an optimum range of the rpm in chainsaw operation which satisfies both of the vibration and the physiological condition, because the relation between the vibration or pulse number and the rpm of chainsaw is opposite to each other.
By the way, the author has the following opinion on the pulse number: considering the physiological factors, pulse and respiration etc, as the internal circumstances of the human body, the less the difference of the pulse number from the circumstances of daily life, the more the working comfortableness under the timber cutting operation is expected.
