Description

An idea comes from the approach of an assimilation productivity on a part of the crown surface layer which causes a difference to the growth. When tree growth is related to crown projectional area, a whole opening in a pure even-aged closed stand is shared proportionally among all trees in order to relate crown projectional area to stand density. At this time the area occupancy of a tree consists of the crown projectional area and the divided opening, the area occupancy is related to assimilation productivity through the crown projectional area. At the same time, the density of the average area occupancy and the stand density become the same number. Then, a growth function with factors of the area occupancy and the age is proposed. The Japanese larch (Larix leptolepis Gord.) tree data and stand data in the Hokkaido district is analyzed by this growth function and the area occupancy as one of effective factors is also discussed. As a result in pure even-aged closed stand the area occupancy as the factor effects the tree growth and the average area occupancy, as the factor, expresses the stand density effect. Furthermore, the average tree growth in the growth function gives the approximation of each tree.
