Abstract

To find marker genes for a population study of Ginkgo biloba L. polyacrylamide gel electrophoretic analyses were made on megagametophytes of nine large trees of this species. In 5 out of 12 enzymes analyzed, genetic variations were found. They were sorbitol dehydrogenase (SoDH), shikimate dehydrogenase (ShDH), glutamate oxialoacetate transaminase (GOT), phosphoglucomutase (PGM), and acid phosphatase (Acp). Found were 9 loci with 19 alleles in total. Two alleles were detected in each of following 6 loci: Sod, Shd-1, Pgm-1, Pgm-2, Acp-1, and Acp-2, and there were 3 alleles in Got-1 and Acp-4. The segregation of the families fit well to the expected ratio of 1:1, expect for Acp-4 in one family (No. 3). Seven enzyme systems which showed no variations were alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH), glycerate-2-dehydrogenase (G 2 DH), 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (6 PGD), glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G 6 PD), glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH), esterase (Est), and phosphoglucose isomerase (PGI).
