Description

Information systems are required in radiology to unify HIS, RIS, and PACS. In 1990, LAN construction plans were as follows: 1)adoption of Ethernet without dependency on traders, 2)use of image transmission with a standard transmitting protocol (TCP/IP), and 3)utilization of FTP-applications. This helped to realize image transmission among CT, MRI, and RI. From 1995 to 1996, the information system underwent a major reconstruction so that real-time image transmission could be obtained. We examined the use of FDDI (fiber distributed data interface), Switching HUB, a Unix server, and workstation in order to improve transmission speed and maintain a former system. sufficient speed for practical image transmission with the existing LAN was obtained using FDDI (100 Mbps).
