Abstract
An investigation was carried out about the newly developed plasma powder welding system, automated by using plasma arc and powder filler. The test results are shown as follows.<br>(1) Spherical powder is so suitable for plasma powder welding that powder could be feeded very smoothly through torch to arc and weldmetal could be obtained with good appearance and high quality.<br>(2) Best welding conditions of powder feeding rate, Ar gas flow rate, welding current and others were established.<br>(3) Quality of plasma powder weldmetal being compared with oxy-acetylene gas weldmetal is shown as follows.<br>(1) Hardness of plasma powder weldmetal is higher than the gas weldmetal.<br>(2) Dilution from base metal to weldmetal in case of plasma powder welding is smaller than gas welding.<br>(3) Micro structure of plasma powder weldmetal is finer than gas weldmetal.
