Abstract

This paper describes the effects of dihedral angles (Γ) and sweepback angles (Λ) on the lift and drag characteristics of the cambered otter boards in free stream or near the bottom. Seven types of otter board model cambered plates (aspect ratio λ=1.5, camber ratio CR=15%) with different dihedral and sweepback angles were tested in a circulating water tank. The effects of dihedral angle on lift and drag of the cambered plates in free stream and near the bottom were very small. However, the maximum lift coefficient of the cambered plates with sweepback angle Λ=20° in free stream and Λ=10° near the bottom were about 9% and 5% larger than that of the cambered plate without sweepback angle, respectively.
