Abstract
The carotenoid pigments from the fin and skin of nineteen species of fishes in the division percichthyes were investigated. They have similar carotenoid patterns, consisting of β-carotene, α-cryptoxanthin, tunaxanthin, lutein, zeaxanthin, diatoxanthin, cynthiaxanthin, astacene, α-doradecin, and small amounts of unidentified pigments.<br> The assumption proposed by the author that tunaxanthin might be a chemical indicator in the division percichthyes proved correct by the present investigation.
