Abstract
The present account is chiefly based on “International Whaling Statistics, ” Vol. 6 (1935), Vol. 7 (1936), Vol. 8 (1937) and Vol. 10 (1937), edited by the Committee for Whaling Statistics appointed by the Norwegian Government, Oslo. Some materials from four Japanese floating-factories (1937/1938) were also accounted.<br> 1. Of 1, 131 humpback foetuses 629 or 55•6% were males. This percentage value is more or less larger than those of blue whale 51•1% or fine whale 51•4%. 2. The percentage of the twin-pregnancies to the normal ones (0•42%) is smaller than those of blue whale 0•5% or fin whale 0•8%. The poly-pregnancies above triple were not found. 3. The rate of foetal growth from 2 to 7 solar months of pregnancy can be expressed by the equation'l=ktn, where l is the body length of foetus of t months old, and n and k are constants, of which n=1•5. (In blue whale n=1•9. In fin whale n=1•7)
