Abstract

Histopathogenesis of intestinal tumors in 178 rats induced by oral administration of bracken was studied. The tumors was noted to be epithelial and non-epithelial being mainly localized at ileum (93.2%). The epithelial ones occurred at a high rate, and they were diagnosed as tubular adenocarcinoma (178 cases), papillary adenocarcinoma (22 cases) and adenoma (6 cases). Tubular adenocarcinoma with most frequences was presumed to occur from the proliferative zone in crypts of the small intestine. On the other hand, the non-epithelial tumors occurred being closely related to the stroma or adjacent tissue of carcinoma. They were noted to be leiomyosarcoma (62 cases), fibrosarcoma (14 cases), fibroma (10 cases), leiomyoma (8 cases), lymphangioendothelioma (2 cases), hemangioma (1 case) and hemangioendothelioma (1 case).
