Description

Affected muscle extracts horn 3 cases of bovine eosinophilic myositis ex-hibited chemotactic activity specific for bovine eosinophilic leucocytes. The activity ofseverely affected muscles was higher than that of mildly affected ones. The activityremained unchanged after heating at 60C for 30 min or l00C for 5 min. It was not lostafter dialysis, but no activity was recovered after treating with acid, alkali, EDTA ortrypsin. Ultracentrifugation with sucrose density gradients revealed that the effectivefractions had a molecular weight smaller than that of bovine serum albumin. Such eosin-ophil chemotactic factor is considered to play an important role for producing localeosinophilia in bovine eosinophilic myositis.
