A case of progressive facial hemiatrophy of the left side in a 60-year-old woman was reported, especially with regards to oral symptom and X-ray CT images.<BR>1) The etiology of this atrophy is at present unknown but in this case the patient first noticed the erosion and pigmentation of the lip chin and palpebra of the left side after being hospitalized for tonsillectomy at 19 years of age.<BR>2) Atrophy was noted on the left side of the face, neck, hand, and truncus including skin, subcutaneous tissues, salivary gland, muscles, and bones.<BR>3) The teeth were normal.<BR>The tongue was affected, and the atrophic half was reduced in size.<BR>The gingiva (Γ2 3 4) was involuted.<BR>The soft tissues of the soft palate and pharynx of the left side were lacking in depth and width.<BR>4) The salivary flow rate and sour and bitter taste sensitivity on the tongue of the left side were decreased.
